Data Dashboard: China Machine Tool Industry Profile

China surpassed Germany as the top global machine tool exporter in the first half of 2025, further evidence of its growing role in this technology that is critical for industrial and defense production. This is one of the key findings of Silverado’s new China Machine Tool Industry Profile.

Additional insights:

• China is the largest global producer of machine tools, accounting for about one-third of global production of metalworking machine tools in 2024.
• There were mixed trends in China’s production over the last decade, with the volume of production declining and the value of production rising. The volume of production is once again increasing, however, and China is on pace for the highest level of production, by volume, since 2016.
• China’s global exports of machine tools, by value, more than doubled from 2015 to 2024.
• China passed Germany as the largest explorer of machine tools in the first half of 2025, accounting for 19 percent of global exports.
