In May 2026, China did not export any rare earth compounds/metals in tariff lines fully covered by export controls to the United States, indicating that China continues to heavily restrict rare earth exports to the United States.

Further, China’s exports of rare earth magnets to the United States remained well below historical levels in May (some, but not all, rare earth magnets are covered by export controls).
