China’s exports of rare earth magnets to the United States (some–but not all–of which are covered by export controls) have declined every month since October 2025 and in March 2026 were well below pre-April 2025 export control levels. China’s exports of export-controlled rare earth compounds and metals to the United States in March 2026 (in tariff lines fully covered by export controls rebounded to around historical levels for the first time since the implementation of export controls. The largest increases were seen for Yttrium and lutetium.
