Slides and Video Recording of Webinar - Market Watch: Chinese EV Trade
Experts from Silverado Policy Accelerator and the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) discussed the continued evolution of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) industry, and the potential implications for U.S. production, U.S. producers, and the U.S. market. The conversation covered recent research by USITC staff and the most recent developments in the Chinese EV industry. From 2018 to 2023, Chinese EV exports increased rapidly in terms of both quantity and value, and China now exports more EVs than any other country worldwide. This increase seems to be driven in large part by improvements in the quality of Chinese EV exports, with higher unit prices and a greater share of exports going to high-income countries. Chinese EV exports to the United States did not significantly increase during 2018–23, but competition in third-country markets has negatively affected U.S. EV exports. This webinar is a follow-up to Silverado's previous webinar with USITC staff in July 2023, which covered the supply chain for EVs and EV batteries in the U.S. market.
